The Craftsman 34260 Mechanic's Socket Set, offering sizes of 1/4 in., 3/8 in., and 1/2 in., is a popular choice among mechanics and DIY enthusiasts. This socket set comes with various pieces, including sockets, ratchets, extensions, and a carrying case. In this analysis, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of purchasing this socket set.
Pros:1. Versatility: With a mix of sockets, ratchets, extensions, and a carrying case, this set offers a wide range of tools and sizes to accommodate various repair tasks.
2. Durability: Craftsman is a reputable brand known for producing high-quality tools. The 34260 socket set is no exception, featuring chrome-vanadium steel construction for long-lasting performance.
3. Affordability: Compared to other socket sets from top brands, the Craftsman 34260 set offers excellent value for money.
4. Comfort: The sockets in this set have a 12-point design, providing ample grip and reducing the risk of rounding off bolt heads.
5. Convenience: The set comes with a compact, durable carrying case for easy storage and transportation.
Cons:1. Limited Sizes: Although the 3/8 in. and 1/2 in. sockets cover a broad range of applications, the 1/4 in. sockets might not be sufficient for some tasks, especially for smaller or delicate components.
2. Weight: Weighing approximately 22 lbs., this socket set may be more challenging to transport and use for extended periods compared to lighter sets.
3. Potential for Cross-Thread Damage: Due to the size and number of components, there's a risk of cross-threading if not used carefully, which could lead to damage or stripping of bolts.
4. No Deep Sockets: This socket set does not include deep sockets, which may be required for certain vehicle repairs, especially for low-clearance applications.
Conclusion:The Craftsman 34260 Mechanic's Socket Set is an excellent investment for those looking for an affordable, versatile, and durable socket set. Its 12-point sockets, durability, and comprehensive range of tools make it a valuable addition to any garage or workshop. However, its weight, limited socket sizes, lack of deep sockets, and potential for cross-thread damage are factors to consider before purchasing.
Recommendation:If the lack of deep sockets is a deal-breaker for your requirements, consider purchasing an additional deep socket set to complement this one. Additionally, take the time to properly use the tools to minimize the risk of cross-thread damage. Overall, the Craftsman 34260 Mechanic's Socket Set is a solid choice for mechanic work and DIY projects requiring a broad range of socket sizes.
Most sockets have little to no use. All ratchets work as designed. Some extra larger sockets added along with a few extensions not in the standard set. Also added a line wrench set and some screwdrivers.
Nice used set nearly complete. If you see something that wish the set included let me know, chances are I have one to include. Good quality set. Everything on the pictured paperwork is included except standard combo wrenches were replaced with 12 point instead of 6.
Case has some scratches and a few stains from grease oil. All sockets are the correct series, no replacements. Some have light wear. Everything added is made in usa but may not be a Craftsman.
